It's been awhile - but FUCK YOU NYC TWU
I'll be blunt, and I'll repeat myself. Fuck you, Transit Workers Union. You make more money than a lot of New Yorkers, your benefits are about as good as it gets, and now, you fuck over the people who need it most, including many of New Yorkers lower income citizens who depends on you to get them to work every day.
Eight percent raise in EACH of the next three years??!!? In this day and age, and this economy, a lot of people would be happy to have eight percent OVER three years. You all disgust me.
I'm a big believer in unions. I believe they are necessary to keep big business in check. But I also believe that unions have to use their power responsibly. And this is an example of a union being irresponsible.
Your action is EXACTLY what right wing conservative nutjobs who are anti-union point to when they say unions are out of control, and unnecessary.
So, for fucking over 7 million New Yorkers who depend on you daily, screw off. And for the even bigger picture of damaging unions nationwide with your irresponsible actions, and even bigger screw off.
You've got great jobs with great benefits. And now you're breaking the law by striking. So stay off the damned job long enough, and someone else will step in and take it.

well, i don't think their rep speaks for all of the workers... just as our pres doesn't speak for us... but then again, that is how we as a country are judged and how the TWU is being judged. 8% is a lot... but you know as well as I do that 3% isn't a whole hell of a lot a year. Especially when it pushes you over into that next tax bracket. What the problem is - anti-union right wings pushing more and more - and the only way a union believes they can fight back is to show or pull their power as well. But you know my friend is a motorman and i can tell you- he's not happy for a strike but he will stand by his union and is out there today standing on Bergen and Atlantic for 4 hours. --
things are circular, cyclical - wars, strikes, debates... think of it, every 20+ years an MTA strike- every 30+ years a big old war, every 40+ years a debate about creationism and evolution. It will be ok. Go read the Daily kos
SEPTA here in philly did a similar strike a couple of months ago for the exact same reasons...they didn't want to pay for their health care and they wanted a way bigger raise than the rest of us slobs get a year. it lasted a week and both sides eventually compromised, but it was a nightmare because philly may not be as big as nyc, it's still big enough to be crippled when there's no public transportation.
i feel bad for all the new yorkers and hope this strike doesn't last as long as ours did.
